Oriola replaces air freight with road transport for vaccine deliveries in northern Sweden
Oriola has transitioned vaccine deliveries from its distribution centre in Mölnlycke to Northern Sweden from air freight to road transportation. Fully implemented during the second half of 2026, the change reduces transport-related carbon emissions while maintaining the quality and reliability required for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.

Previously, vaccine deliveries to Northern Sweden and inland regions in the north were transported from Mölnlycke by air. They are now handled entirely by road from our distribution centre in Enköping, enabling us to optimise transport flows and combine vaccine shipments with other pharmaceutical deliveries.
Approximately 390 pallets of vaccines per year are covered by the new transport model. This is estimated to reduce annual CO₂-equivalent emissions by around 13 tonnes compared with the previous transport solution.

Maintaining quality and reliability
Vaccine distribution places high demands on temperature control and handling throughout the supply chain. Following the rollout, there’s been no negative impact on temperature control, delivery reliability or customer service.
The new transport model also reduces handling during transportation, and instead of passing through airport operations, products remain within controlled logistics environments and are handled by GDP-certified personnel throughout the journey.
More sustainable and efficient logistics
The transition enables us to make better use of existing transport capacity by combining vaccine deliveries with other pharmaceutical shipments. This reduces unnecessary transport movements and improves overall transport efficiency.
The full environmental impact of the change will be visible from 2027, when the new transport model has been in operation for a full year.
