We want to offer a safe and healthy working environment that supports employees’ wellbeing.
Today, the balance between work and other areas of life is a critical element in employee wellbeing. Managing one's own work, stress levels and recovery are typical challenges, particularly in expert work. We measure our employees’ experience on their work-life balance annually as part of our employee engagement survey, and plan actions based on results. In recent years, we have seen positive developments in stress levels experienced at work, and sufficient recovery between work shifts.
Considering personal life situation, such as caring for small children or ageing parents, is also important for a balanced workload. In 2020, 14% of our female employees and 11% of male employees took parental leave during the year. Flexible practices such as remote working and part-time work facilitate the adaptation to different life situations. At Oriola, digital working tools support cooperation and information sharing regardless of the employee’s physical location.
The pandemic has highlighted health safety of our employees
Remote working as well as the health and wellbeing of our personnel has been the focus in a new way during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 2020, our office personnel have largely been working remotely, while pharmacy and production staff have continued their work at the workplace protected by new comprehensive health and safety guidelines. We have introduced protective equipment as well as practices that minimise staff close contact. In addition, extensive mass testing for COVID-19 infections has been conducted, especially at Swedish production sites. Our precautionary measures and work have always been guided by Oriola’s objective to ensure patient safety without compromising the health and safety of our personnel.
Occupational health and safety is organised at Oriola and in compliance with local legislation. All our employees are covered by occupational health services, with the main focus on preventive services. We invest in improving occupational safety, especially at our logistics centres and pharmacies. Oriola uses an early support model to increase employees’ wellbeing at work and prevent sickness absences at all career stages. In 2020, we had no fatalities or high-consequence work-related injuries. Our lost-time injury rate was low, 3.19. It reflects the number of injuries resulting in an absence of at least one workday per million hours worked.
