Kimmo Savolainen, Director of Oriola´s Logistics Operations Oriola: Attracted by Oriola's good reputation

20.10.2015

- Oriola is a big logistics operator with a good reputation, and the pharmaceutical
business with its special requirements will offer interesting challenges, says Kimmo Savolainen, Director of Oriola's Logistics Operations.

Kimmo Savolainen started his work as Director of Logistics Operations at Oriola in August. Savolainen is a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and has accumulated lengthy experience in logistics management working for Nokia Networks and Inex Partners. What made Savolainen interested in Oriola as a employer?

- Oriola is a big logistics operator with a good reputation, and the pharmaceutical
business with its special requirements will offer interesting challenges.

Savolainen will be responsible for Oriola’s logistics in Finland and Sweden.
His area of responsibility is large, which is why his work has started with
careful orientation.

- I have studied the operations of the various departments as well as
authorities’ requirements. Logistics as a field demands continuous development.
We have several good development projects that are already under way or that
will soon be launched, and it has been a joy to be involved in them, Savolainen
says.

- Also in logistics, we will have closer cooperation across borders. We will
look for the best practices in the field and use them widely at Oriola. This
way we will be able to carry out development work in one place rather than
having to come up with the same ideas simultaneously in many places. By
harmonising our operations we will gain synergy benefits, Savolainen says.

In its development work, Oriola uses a number of tools, such as Lean management
tools.

- The use of these tools has been launched and people have been practicing with
them, and the results have been promising. Further use of these tools will
enable us to reach great results, Savolainen says.

The field of logistics is under continuous development, and new technologies
will create new opportunities. It is vital to stay on top of the developments,
says Savolainen.

- I am extremely interested in logistics as a field and I actively follow its
development. I also get good tips from my contact network, trade fairs,
conventions and the internet.
