The medicines verification system is coming – are you ready?

13.6.2017

On 7th June, we organised a breakfast meeting with our customers regarding the medicines verification system. Maija Gohlke-Kokkonen, CEO of the Finnish Medicines Verification Organisation FiMVO (Suomen Lääkevarmennus Oy), reviewed the status of the system. She told about the progress in the construction of the medicines verification system and the obligations it sets on pharmaceutical companies. In Europe, the system will be implemented in February 2019, but in Finland, the aim is to have the system operative already in November 2018. Thus, the project is advancing at full speed.

Marika Launonen, IM Director at Oriola Data Administration, presented a medicinal product wholesaler’s viewpoint on the medicines verification system. Oriola Finland and Sweden co-operate closely in the implementation of the medicines verification system, and the project advances as planned.

- The implementation of the medicines verification system is a great thing and it has been really interesting to participate in the project from the very beginning. The project progresses as planned and in Finland and Sweden, Oriola will participate in the pilot phase among the first ones, says Launonen.

Expert services to support you in the change

The medicines verification system will include protective markings that will be added on the packaging of prescription medicines, i.e. a unique serial number and a tamper evidence mechanism. Oriola expert services (formerly Farenta) are able to give excellent support to pharmaceutical companies in the implementation of the medicines verification system.

- We offer our pharmaceutical industry customers the most extensive service selection in Finland and help our customers in, for example, changes to the labelling of medicinal products and auditing of packaging material suppliers. All our experts in Oriola expert services work closely together which is why we are able to provide the best possible service to our customers, says Regulatory Affairs Team Lead Laura Riihimäki-Lampén.
